Gentle, Safe, and Stress-Free Tooth Extractions

Sometimes a tooth can’t be saved—but your comfort and long-term oral health can be. At Floss & Gloss Dental, we make extractions simple, precise, and as pain-free as possible, helping you heal quickly and confidently.

What Are Tooth Extractions?

Tooth extraction is a common dental procedure where a damaged, decayed, or problematic tooth is carefully removed from its socket. While the idea might sound intimidating, modern dentistry has made extractions far gentler and faster than most people imagine. At Floss & Gloss Dental, we prioritize patient comfort through advanced numbing techniques, sedation options, and minimally invasive methods to make the experience smooth and anxiety-free.

Extractions are often necessary when a tooth is severely infected, broken beyond repair, or crowding other teeth. Sometimes, even healthy teeth may need to be removed before orthodontic treatment or to make room for wisdom teeth that could cause future problems. Our goal isn’t just to remove a tooth—it’s to protect your oral health, prevent complications, and set the stage for long-term comfort and function.

Why Tooth Extractions Are Needed

Tooth extractions play a vital role in maintaining overall oral health. Leaving a severely infected or decayed tooth untreated can lead to abscesses, gum disease, and even bone loss. By removing the source of infection, your body can heal properly and prevent bacteria from spreading to neighboring teeth or into the bloodstream.

In other cases, extractions are necessary to create space—such as before orthodontic treatments or when wisdom teeth erupt at awkward angles. These “third molars” often become impacted, meaning they are trapped under the gums and can cause pain, swelling, and infections. Extracting them early helps you avoid serious dental complications later.

Tooth extractions also pave the way for restorations like implants, bridges, or dentures. By properly planning the procedure, our team ensures that your next step—whether it’s a replacement tooth or realignment—fits seamlessly into your overall treatment plan.

Our Tooth Extraction Process

Your comfort comes first, from the first consultation to complete recovery. Here’s how we ensure your extraction is handled with precision and care.

1

Consultation and Imaging

We begin by examining your mouth and taking digital X-rays to determine the tooth’s condition and its position in your jawbone. This helps us plan a safe, minimally invasive extraction.

2

Numbing and Sedation

Before the procedure starts, a local anesthetic is applied to completely numb the area. For patients who feel anxious, we also offer sedation options to help you relax throughout the process.

3

Gentle Extraction

Using specialized instruments, the dentist carefully loosens and removes the tooth while protecting surrounding bone and tissue. For impacted teeth, a small incision may be made to aid removal.

4

Aftercare and Recovery

Once the tooth is removed, we provide detailed aftercare instructions to help your mouth heal properly. You’ll be advised on how to manage swelling, bleeding, and when to resume normal activities. Most patients recover within a few days with minimal discomfort.

Frequently Asked Questions

Learn what to expect before, during, and after your tooth extraction, and get peace of mind with answers to the most common concerns patients have.

Will the extraction hurt?

No, the procedure itself is completely painless thanks to local anesthesia. You may feel mild pressure during the process but no sharp pain. Afterward, some soreness or swelling is normal for a day or two and can be managed with over-the-counter pain relief and cold compresses.

Most patients recover within three to five days, though it can take up to two weeks for the socket to fully heal. Avoid smoking, drinking through a straw, or eating hard foods during this time to prevent complications such as dry socket.

Stick to soft foods like soups, yogurt, smoothies, and mashed potatoes for the first 24–48 hours. Gradually reintroduce solid foods as you heal. Staying hydrated and avoiding very hot or spicy foods will speed up recovery.

A dry socket occurs when the blood clot that forms in the extraction site becomes dislodged or dissolves too early, exposing the bone and nerves. To prevent it, avoid smoking, drinking through straws, and touching the area with your tongue or fingers.

Replacement options like dental implants or bridges can typically be placed after the socket has fully healed—usually within a few weeks to a few months. Our team will guide you through the best timing and options for restoration.
